Springfield North High School Class of 2008 held its commencement at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 29, at the North High Football Stadium. Speakers for the commencement program were: Benjamin Yu, valedictorian; Claire Trempe, salutatorian and student body president; Meghan Montero, class president.

Bitsy Lawhorn singled-in Caitlyn Sigmon in the bottom of the sixth inning as Northside (10-6-1, 4-1-1) needed, defeating Alleghany 1-0 to win the Blue Ridge District softball title. Tamara Smith tossed a shutout, scattering five hits while striking out nine.
Freshman Rep. Hank Johnson (D) will run unopposed by any major-party candidate for Georgia’s 4th congressional district seat this November. Neither the Democratic nor Republican party registered a candidate to oppose Johnson by Friday’s deadline, according to the Georgia Secretary of State’s office.
