Tropical Garden Party The second annual Tropical Garden Party to benefit the local chapter of the National Association of Parents of children with Visual Impairments will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Rogers home of Karen and John Scholes. The evening will include wine tasting, dinner and entertainment. Tickets are $50.

A couple of days ago, I read a very interesting blog entry by Anthony Bourdain (bravotv.com/blog/anthonybourdain) about soul food. In his commentary on season three of “Top Chef,” Bourdain explains to readers that “chefs usually mean when talking about “soul” (or “heart”) that the food has a depth of flavor that is both exciting and somehow, strangely, comfortingly familiar.”
